2008 is definitely the most memorable year since 1990.
A good and bad year.

my close friends should know what's good and bad for me in 2008
yup, its definitely good because of people like the Coolios and anybody who thinks that they are my good friends! :)
without them, 2008 would have been like 1989.

A new chapter of my life begins next Friday.

Standard Chartered Marathon 2008

Alright!
I've finally completed my first full Marathon!

And I tell you, that would also probably be my last...
I used to think my dad was just plain irritating when he kept saying "Its stupid to pay just to go there and torture yourself"
Now, that phrase is making a whole lot more sense.
Really, running a marathon is not enjoyable at all, to me lah.
okay, maybe not that extreme to say "at all"
I did enjoy the first 10km and the last 10 metres...

Overall it was fucking torturous!
If they had made it much easier to quit, for example, place teleport machines along the way.
I wouldn't have finished the marathon...

Also, in 18 years, I've never drank that much of 100 plus in a day before.
I puke 100 plus out.
I perspire 100 plus out.
I pee 100 plus out.

Put my rants aside.
I'm proud to have done it together with Zheng Hui, Ken Tat, Wei Xing and my sister!
ok not literally together because I lost them early in the run.
and yes. I ran most of it ALONE.
Damn sad.

Anyway, kudos to the guys for completing a full marathon without even trying the half marathon.
They have some big balls.

And a BIGGER KUDOS to my sister.
It was her second marathon and she was still able to complete it even after having a recurrence of an old knee injury early at the 7km mark and she completed the last 20km with a bandaged knee!
That's Determination people.

by the way, I think my chip time is about 5hr 30mins.
I think its a pretty decent timing for me
BUT
I was slower than my sister last year :(
ok ok. I admit defeat!
I won't give excuses ok! (erm, actually I had abit of stitch and half cramps..)

Prom was a blast!
Prom was actually way better than I had expected.
but maybe its because my expectations was low?

Post prom party was at Butter Factory.
Generally, the post prom kinda sucked
1. The college didnt book the whole club.
2. It was fucking crowded and there wasn't even a separate queue for us like the SC had said.
It was just poor organisation.
we eventually managed to get in after a loooong wait.
saw a couple of secondary school friends
music was good.
Overall, the night was CRAZY!
I shall skip the details.
But hell, it was the Craziest night ever.

Back from HKG

Just got back from Hong Kong.
The weather there was super shiok.
It was about 18 degrees there and when we touched down in Singapore.
Its 28 degrees - welcome back to Singapore Derek!

Super sinful 4 days at HongKong.
Had Yum Cha there everyday. (dim sum there is cheap!)
Had roasted goose (with the skin) LOL
I don't know why, but I had Mc'Donald's there.
but I took only nuggets and fries.
Bad enough.

My sister was complaining about my hair at the back the whole time and she ended cutting it!
Now I have to go to a hair salon tomorrow -_-"

I was just reflecting and felt pretty disappointed in myself.
because I've totally lost the discipline to shut out distractions.
I haven't been going to the gym as regularly as I should.
I haven't been able to make myself study according to my plans.
This is totally WEAK mind control.

Looking back at last year when I thought I was most disciplined.
I could manage a twice weekly gym and run routine while preparing for my promos, down to even the last week.
And I was also able to study efficiently in front of my computer and beside my comfy bed.

Now, I'm not even close to that level.
I seriously need to wake up.
Its not even promos now,
this time round it is fucking A'levels and my future.

From tomorrow onwards.
I need to get my discipline back.
I shall hit the gym regularly!
A healthy body makes a healthy mind!

But in order to meet my ultimate aim of 3 As, I seriously need to do ALOT more for BIO man...

I'm pretty broke now because I spent around $60 to buy Prelims and A'lvl practice papers for all my subjects.
and I'm also aware that I barely touched those thick books of prelims practice papers that I bought before prelims.
but its usually the case where you buy alot of stuff but use only a little and its still worth it!
right?

Hey, nothing beats the time when I bought the history 10-yr series book the night before my paper during the O'levels :)

Prelims ended!
And our post prelims celebration was super hiong!

Played badminton and went to DBL O on Friday.

The guys were really surprised that the bouncer didn't check our ID.
We were worried because its supposed to be 20 years old for guys and zheng hui wasn't even 18 yet. ahahaha. he borrowed ID from amelia's bf's friend though.
Anyway, we got in easily :)

And it was fucking fun!
music was good but it could be better.
the drinks at dbl o is damn cheap!
a shot of tequila cost only $3!!!

My parents told me that they'll probably drop by dbl o to "disturb" me.
I called my mum at 1 plus and she was already damn high.
LOL
The party ended early at 2.50am
and my parents were across the road waiting for me and my mum was dead drunk.
hahahaha
took a cab home with my parents and I had to help carry my mum.
LOL

My friends came over to my house in another cab.
5 of us squeezed into my room and we only managed to sleep at about 6am plus
why?
cause zheng hui and I were being idiots.
all of us only managed to sleep after both of us shut up.

Woke up at 11am, had lunch and I went to woodlands to help Jasmine with her promos preparation for math.
Hope she does well for her math!

We wanted to go to wild wild wet on sunday but www was closed till end of September.

So we ended up going to Jurong swimming complex instead.
The weather was goody and sunny
and all of us got burnt.
I looked like a cooked lobster now.
YES!
I got sun burnt! woohooo!
Finally!

Because ever since I stepped down from Dragonboat.
I seldom had chance to go under the sun
And I was not even fair, I was white.
Mr Lee told me this on Friday, "Wah Derek, You very white leh. You look like a nerd"

After swmming, we went home to get some rest.
Jasmine came over to my house to print some stuff and I helped her with some Organic Chem.
ok, I'm not that good in Chem but I could still offer some help.

She stayed for dinner and after dinner, I had a mini party in my little house.
6 of my friends came over to catch Chelsea vs Man Utd
My parents went to buy some drinks and juice for us.
We had raspberry and orange vodka and baileys!
The match ended with a draw :(
we had a great time though!
That match was the best Man utd match for me in terms of the company and the fun factor.
Wooooooo!

I have cool parents! and really thank them for their help that night!
After the match, my parents went to bed and 7 of squeezed into my room for the night.
We played Uno Stacko with raspberry vodka

I was the first to sleep at about 1 plus while the rest were being disturbed by Zheng hui, again.

We woke up early at 7.30 and went to Kallang to play soccer at the Cage!
We met up with 11 other Dragonbaoters and Kayakers at the Cage and we played for fucking 4 hours.
Not exactly a very good idea because most of us started getting injured and cramps.
LOL
And now, my whole body ache like crap.

Anyway, the past 4 days have been super Crazy!

I really hope I can pass every subject man
especially Econs and Bio
Cause I've never passed these 2 pain-in-the-ass subjects since promos last year.

Alright, now its time to complain.

My college's P.E. Department has recently decided to ban ALL students from the school gym.
Why?
Because they started finding food wrappers and drink cartons in the gym and decided to stop the abuse with the very appropriate measure of banning the students.
Come on!
Just because a bunch of assholes left their munchy crunchy lunch in the gym, now ALL of us are banned from it.
It doesn't take a mature person with a developed brain to know that a ban is not the most effective solution.
If banning people is so easy and effective, then imagine if one day, a group of students go round the school littering and what the school gonna do?
I know!
Consult those dudes in dri-fit t-shirts and shorts and they'll probably tell the principal to ban ALL students from the school.
Perfect!
cause now, we don't have to go to school.
Brilliant.

I seriously think that the P.E. department should look at the issue again.
They seriously need help in making policies.
They should spend a day watching the PM's Rally Speech from the past decade.

Looking back, on 2 occasions, my team mates and I were not allowed to use the gym because there was a class having P.E. lesson in the gym.
Look.
Those guys and girls were all concentrated at the machines area and some were even chatting in a group on the floor.
Thus leaving the free weights section TOTALLY EMPTY.
Can't they just let us in to use the free weights and we won't even disturb the class.
Seriously.
They need to start thinking and stop being lazy.
I know BAN is easy.
Just 3 letters B-A-N, 1 syllabus

Hey, I'm not going to start pointing fingers at those I think who have left their leftovers in the gym.
But, come on...
If you can work out basic logic and reasoning just by observing the trend.
I'm not saying it but ya, the problem PROBABLY lies in SOME of the jc1 students.
because, we had none of such problems last year.

Alright, enough of complaints.
So for now, I have to pay $1.50 everytime I use the Yishun Gym.
And I'm not cheapskate.

Pray hard with me that I'll recover from my flu by tmr.
Because Post-Prelims Celebration starts tmr at 9.30am!!
And it'll last till Monday!
Because Monday is set aside for Marking Day!

Holidays in JC are bullshit
Because we are expected to study for tests or exams that come immediately after our "holidays"
Seriously man...
JC1 June holidays was used to mug for mid-yrs
JC1 september holidays was used to mug for Promos
JC1 december holidays was used to mug for "JC2 welcome back test" What FUCK?
JC2 March holidays was used to mug for Block test
JC2 june holidays was used to mug for Mid-yrs
And now... I'm mugging for my Prelims

That's how sad JC life is...

Anyway, ever since "holidays" started, I've been waking up early to study in school with my friends.
That is my PLAN B
because PLAN A failed.
PLAN A was to mug at home ALONE, like what I've been doing since JC1
But unlike last year, I've lost my discipline in shutting out distractions.
Tell you, the bed and the computer can kill! plus the super shiok weather...

But HA!
I'm glad that PLAN A failed.
Cause PLAN B is working like a charm.
from about 9am in the morning till abt 6pm, I'm stuck in the classroom studying.
besides the 1.5 hour lunch break with my friends, the rest of the time is spent in the classroom.
And its really fun studying with my friends because we do hav occasional KAO BEI sessions.
And we can get really serious and focused on our work as well.

And the best part of PLAN B?
After dinner, there'll be strictly no studying... don't know about KenTat though... LOL
Hey, I just went to play pool after dinner today man!
Well, all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy right?

I went to a couple of forums and read threads regarding the same problem.

An update!

I know 2 weeks have passed since
but yes.
I took part in the Standard Chartered Marathon 2007
And I completed my first Half Marathon !!
Met my target of finishing under 2 hours :)
Clocked 1hr 58mins.

Just saw the draw for the River Regatta
Our opponents for the heats are not easy
Its gonna be tough

Past few trainings were not bad though.
We managed to clocked pretty decent timings
Mr Hee said that we stand a good chance to win if we row like that.

All the heats will be on Saturday, 3 Nov.
Semis and Finals will be on Sunday, 4 Nov.

We received our promos results slip today
Before that, there was a principal's talk in the hall.
~~In his usual poor english,~~ He went through our results and told us what we should expect and do next
and gave out the 20 honour roll awards and 15 most improved student awards

And yes!
I'm one of the 15 awarded for most improved student!
Oh man, it was totally unexpected!
It was also great to see 2 other dragonboaters receiving the award
YAY!

Got back my results slip and fortunately, I'm allowed to continue doing 4 H2.
Anyway, I'm intending to downgrade either H2 Bio or Econs.
Spoke to Mrs Boo and she advised me that since I cannot decide on which one to drop, I should continue doing 4 H2 and see how it goes next year.
Good idea

Btw, Masters on last Sunday was terrible.
Our timings improved tremendously....... due to the water condition.
But looking at the results, It was bad.
There are many reasons that I can think of to explain our performance
but fuck it.
I know my team is capable of better results.
Forget about it.
River Regatta is next.

Went to my class chalet yesterday night.
didn't stay over though

BBQ food is unhealthy so I met up with the other dragonboaters first to have dinner at White Sands food court.
But I still ate some BBQ food at the chalet

Promos results!

I got back all of my promotional examinations results on Friday.
We were kept in the hall and the different subject departments took turns to give out the papers
one after the other.

And overall...
I'm really happy with my promos results.

General Paper - C
H2 Maths - A
H2 Economics - C
H2 Chemistry - B
H2 Biology - S
H1 Chinese - E

Promos make up 60%,
mid-yrs 15%
CA 25%

I just hope that my mid-yr results of C,D,E,S,U,U doesn't affect my promos results too much.

Bio really sucked
Only one class passed on average.
Biology is not worth it.
Its a subject which everyone puts in ALOT of time and effort to study and gets crappy results.
It suck.

I'm really happy for my Maths and Chem.

Anyway, it just feels good that all your effort in the last several weeks before promos has not gone wasted.

Went to play lan on Saturday after training
11 of us started with playing counter-strike before Elvis got really bored and persuaded everyone to play Dota
I was relunctant but I agreed
I was the noobest noob
but Elvis was really patient with me
He bought all the stuff for me and taught me

And man!
I loved it.
5 vs 5 was really fun
I was playing humji throughout, I stayed behind my team mates
and ran like hell when I see any enemy heroes.

I wanna play again
but I don't think I'm addicted - yet

Today and tomorrow are supposed to be marking days
but NYJC's idea of marking days are actually "Independent learning days"
We had to go to school today for career seminar shit
and we were expected/encouraged to do up our PW during these days.

Project Work is a pain in the arse.
I really do not, never will and don't want to see the purpose of it.

Overall, I can't say I'm confident to promote.

Trash Talk 2

Trash talk today was a disaster for me.

Alright, let's face the fact.
The fact is that our team is weak.
Mr Hee said that himself
and I totally agree.
some of the girls are even stronger than some of the guys.

Besides being weak, there're alot of problems within the team as well.
The seniors and the J1 excos felt that there is a need to address the issues once and for all.
That was why there was a trash talk session today.

Let me tell you what we excos kinda planned to do during the trash talk.
We all agreed on shooting those whom we think needed to improve, be it their attitude or fitness.
After xue wei did his little introduction and Ikhtia lectured the team a little bit.
It was my turn to speak.
I stood up and started shooting Terence regarding his attitude.
There was no doubt that there was a problem with his attitude but I admit I had gone a little too far.
I didn't approach it well.
I lost myself.
So at this very moment.
I would like to apologise for my rashness.
I'm sorry for shouting at the team and especially at Terence.
My bad.

Anyway, I would like to explain my bit.
Alright, after recieving the vice-captain post.
my seniors gave me plenty of advices.
They urged the excos to step up early and take control.
and they also told me that out of the excos, definitely one will bound to be the "bad" one.
Today, I did tried and be firm.
And judging from the team's comments, I guess I stepped over the limit.
And through out the rest of the session, I could see Brandon was serious when he spoke but I just felt the he was holding himself back.
And I thought Xue Wei was being a little too nice.
Overall, I was just Damn disappointed with the session.
Because people whom I expected to speak up didn't.
Moreover, my idea of a trash talk was different from the majority of them.
but I mean, its not called TRASH TALK for nothing.
And half of the team didn't even say a single word.

Some of them commented about the way excos do things.
I'll just pick a few and say my piece.

1. They felt that we were acting too authoritative and acting "big".
This is it.
From Day 1 when I was appointed the vice-captain.
That was the top of my worry list.
I was afraid of stepping up for fear that they would label me as "acting big".
So it did come true.
Let me tell you this, the only leadership position that I remembered holding was a mere chairperson during sec 1.
And since then, I had that fear.
I might have gone too far today when I stepped up for the first time.
but I'm sure this is a good beginning for the times to come.
I hope so.

2. You guys complained that we should have informed you guys that we were going to do 100 push-ups after gym training last week.
but my point is this.
The push-ups that we made you guys did was a punishment.
training and punishment are 2 seperate issues altogether.
Do you remember the seniors pumped us after a rowing session?
Did they inform us that we're going to be punished after a tiring rowing session?
And did you guys complain to them for not informing you guys in advance?
Think about it.

At the end of the talk, you guys changed the subject and started discussing about forming a dragonboat study group.
Yes, it's a great idea.
and i'm not saying that studies aren't important
but discussing it during TRASH TALK??!!
WTF!

Alright, the talk today is screwed and I fucked up.
And that'll be the very last trash talk we gonna have because it doesn't work on our team.

After what happened today, some of you might hate me a little
Although I did cross the line, I didn't regret being firm.
You can hate me for now.
But I hope that you guys will see the rationale behind it someday.
I may not be a good vice-capt, but I'm trying to.
And I appeal for your support.

This past week has been tough.

And I really fucked myself up today.

Especially after today, I feel so fucking fucked up.
I mean... It just didn't go my way.

Alright, a quick update before I continue packing my barang barang
Took part in Singapore DragonBoat Festival last week.
unlike Masters and Nationals, it was 800m races..
I'll skip the results
but I know all of us did good in one way or another
however, we too know that we need to buck up if we want to contend for a medal next year.
guys and girls work hard!

I've gotten back my maths and chemistry papers
44% for chemistry, that's a S
54.5% for maths, that's a D
I'm not smiling, neither am I crying.
I know I'm capable of better results
but looking at the effort that I put into this mid-yrs
I don't deserve anything better.

I don't blame dragonboat for my bad results, and will never.
It was totally my fault
This was the first time that I took an examination so lightly.
I just couldn't focus on my studies during the June holidays.
Yes, I need to change my attitude
And I swear I would.

From now till next year,
it's the period to bust my ass in the gym and on the track to get my fitness level up.
I have plans
and my intensive training starts now.
DB-ers, if you're reading this
I would strongly encourage you guys to come up with a goal and a personal training plan that is beyond our official trainings.

On both days,
when I stepped out of my house, I had this strange feeling that I've forgotten to bring something
and on both days,
I realised what was that something only when the paper started.

It was the first time that after a maths paper, I'm hoping for only a pass...
I never felt so lost after a maths paper

National Schools' Dragon Boat Championship 2007

The Nationals was on Saturday

Here's the brief outline of our races (500m)
we had 3 10 crew boats..
the top 3 teams from each heats enters the final
heat 1: we got 4th, losing out by just 0.2 seconds..
heat 2: one boat got 3rd while the other boat got 6th..
final: we got 5th...

The girls got 2nd for both 20-crew and 10-crew.

20-crew men:
we had 2 boats
1 senior 1 junior
1st- NJC
2nd- ACJC
3rd- seniors
4th- juniors
5th- TPJC

I rowed in the junior boat:)
Was I disappointed not to have rowed in the senior boat and get the bronze medal?
I would be lying if I said no.
I mean, I've been rowing in the senior boat for most of the trainings and even rowed with them in the Masters...
I've grown used to the way they train and how they assess race sets etc...
And I've to admit that I felt a little weird when I first rowed in the junior boat during the last few trainings in bedok...
I felt kinda out of place?
But of course, I know that the J1s are my real team and that we'll be rowing together for another next year.

Anyway, Congratulations to the seniors :)
on the other hand, I was really really glad that I rowed in the junior boat for the Nationals.
Because, we rowed our best race set so far.
In trainings, we usually lose to the seniors by a boat length.
But this time round, we lost by a mere 2 seconds!!!
It was close!
We even beat the senior team from TPJC!
And the thing is that our team only started rowing together 2-3 months ago!

I'm super proud of the team!!!
Even Mr Lee said that he was surprised!
OMG, the team felt soooo good
This is the first time I felt so good without winning :)

Dear team,
We all know that we have great potential!
Lets all train super super hard to improve our fitness and rowing techniques!!!

I believe if we work hard enough, we'll be the team to watch in the next Nationals!

Oh btw, NJC got champion for every single race..

I've been pretty busy and tired...
the life of a JC dragonboater is really demanding...
but hey, I'm loving my new life :)

every week revolves around completing tutorials, revising notes, DB training, personal training and clearing of logsheets.
when I come to think of it, it's actually kinda cool.
because when you are busy with this and that, it makes you feel that your life is really exciting and that every second was spent meaningfully.
agree?

Oh and by the way, we have this DB logsheet thingy...
every week, we have to complete 250 push-ups, 150 chin-ups and 14km run.
and all this excludes the stuff we do during 'official' trainings...
interesting yea?
the senior guys had it worse.
They have to complete 24km per week!

passed initiation on wednesday
we got our bai long shirt :)
I didn't get the new one though, instead Yi He passed me his just for the ceremony...
have to return it to him tmr...

initiation was no joke!
I swear I was whining like a bitch during the middle stations
of course, I've made it...
and just like most of the juniors, I have blisters on my palm...
no, not the kind you get from doing chin-ups

Anyway, it was all worth it :)

Oh and the funniest thing...

instead, we had to paint the walls of HDB void decks around the school

I'm DAMN TIRED now!

Woke up at 5am this morning to catch the first bus to tampines!
5am ok!

so yeah... sports carnival...
frisbee, dragonboat and 1km run
Each class had to send people for the different events

Took part in the 10men dragonboat race
my class has 4 guys and a girl from dragonboat and we.... LOST! :(
Oh man, we were so confident that we gonna win but...
oh well
2nd isn't bad

took part in the 1km run too
had to borrow shoes from wanton because it was a last minute decision and I didnt bring my shoes
And we.... finished 2nd behind the same team that we lost in dragonboat :(

Anyway, had loads of fun today
my class was SUPER HIGH
If there was a "most enthu class" award, 0716 will win it for SURE!

Went to the grandstand to watch a friendly soccer match after gym...
It was between NYJC and Victoria B'div
Yup, they played against Sec 3s and 4s
and.... NYJC lost 0-1!!

Oh man, I think Amkss B'div can beat NYJC too...

As I was watching, I realised that I miss playing competitive soccer!
The last time I played field soccer with boots on was many months ago!
I also miss Mr Ling's yelling
I think Mr Ling is a darn good coach!
His concept of soccer is to always have lots of communication, determination, concentration and teamwork!!
He wants you to always chase hard and play hard
He hates half-hearted tackles, blocks and shots etc
He doesn't need exceptionally skillful players to win

That was exactly what NYJC kinda lacked today...
I couldn't hear the players shouting and communicating
There were instances where 3 players went for the same Victorian player and they didn't get the ball!!!
The coach should be blamed for not emphasizing the fundamental concepts that worked so well for Mr Ling

Did I mention how much I enjoyed myself at the CAGE on last Sunday?
I felt soooo good playing the sports that I've played for 4 years

Wednesday - 2.30 and that's the earliest BUT Wednesday is CCA day and the whole school is dismissed at 2.30. So, it makes no difference!
Thursday - 3.30!

My next 2 years in JC is gonna be miserable!
I can see the future...
except on wednesday when there's DB training...
every other weekday after school will either be the gym or going home to study.

In the morning, the picture I had for the camp was a group of young and hyper leaders leading us in the usual teambuilding games.
It's gonna be fun, I thought...

Instead, the leaders/trainers was a group of adults in their 30s?
yes yes, those trainers have lots of experience and degrees in this and that...
but... It just didn't work.

My house, Pegasus (blue) spent the first 4 hours in LT4 listening to a lecture about knowing yourself and others and goal setting?

Was Orientation 2 fun?
compared to the first one...
Erm, wait a minute.
Both Orientations were ~~not fun~~ fun but not to the extent that I'll ask for more.
Anyway, I just feel that the 1st one was a tad better.
My tribe members were fun people though...

The OGLs for O2 were students from the 1st intake
they did good but one has to admit that the leaders (J2s) for O1 was better.

Oh oh, the most unforgettable program of O2 has to be disco night.
Yes, unforgettable because it sucked so bad.
more specifically, the AVA dude up there in the gallery has a disgusting taste for music.

The NYJC dragonboat team is in a crisis.

This is already the 7th day and I'm still coughing pretty badly.
I just don't understand!
I've been to 2 doctors,
took my medication,
drank gallons of water,
had plenty of rest
and I'm not getting any better!!!
I've finished the bottle of cough mixture and I'm still fucking coughing
This is FUCKING FRUSTRATING!!!!!

I got up this morning, bathed, got changed, took my breakfast and then spent minutes coughing my lungs out in the toilet.
So I've decided to stay home
got a little consolation when my timetable shows that biology is the only important lesson today.
So what if I've got no MC for today?
I don't give a damn any more!!!

I've stayed home for 6 days!
all I can do is to rest, rest and rest!
and 144 hours later, I'm still not well!!!
My life was so meaningless during the week!!!

I've missed sooooo much lessons and I'm way behind right now
and I'm gonna miss more today...
U may think that not going to school for so many days is fun huh?
Hell no!
seriously man...
my mum thinks that I didn't want to go to school today was because I've lost my motivation and all...

Didn't go to school since Wednesday...
had fever, very bad throat, cough and blocked nose
oh man, I blew out a slimy mass of blood from my nose yesterday
gross shit...

Although I have no more fever, my throat still hurts like #&*^$@%$!@#^&!
started coughing last night.
seriously man, its the worst sore throat I've ever had
normally taking lozenges would help but this time, it didn't!
I took so many lozenges that my tongue is sore now...
It's taking too long to heal...
I'm going to see my family doctor in AMK later
yes, all the way from woodlands
I'm sure it'll be worth the trip
the locum doctor whom I saw on Tuesday night SUCKS

My class was randomly selected to do some MOE maths field testing shit after school on Thursday from 2-4
and I decided to pon and do something more meaningful:)
like... going to the gym!
met many seniors and made friends with them
they were telling us about the teachers and stuff...
and they were also telling me stuff that got me thinking of whether or not to stay in dragonboat
there was this guy from rugby trying to psycho me into joining rugby...
rugby's pretty cool... but I thought I'm just not built for such sports...
then came the idea of joining the kayak racing team...
I really don't know man...
I need somebody to come and tell me straight in my face. "kayak!" or "dragonboat!"
as for now... it'll be dragonboat...

talking about that, the next DB training is tomorrow from 2.30 to 6!
I hate day trainings!
It really screws up your day man!
fortunately, tomorrow won't be totally screwed up:)

Hey everybody!
this morning was hilarious lah!
I was at the bus stop opposite jubilee, taking bus to school as usual...
I was in my Amkss uniform... duh~
Bus 24 came and I boarded it
got onto the bus, and was shocked to see a lower sec amksian behind me
He has no name tag so he must be a sec 1 boy
so what do you think happen?
my first thoughts was hey, this guy must have boarded the wrong bus
he must have thought that I was going to AMKSS...
monkey see monkey do huh?

Initially when I saw him, I had the urge to tell him that he has boarded the wrong bus but in the end I didn't...
please don't ask me why
so he followed me on a 20 minutes bus journey
and I "brought" him all the way to the bus stop where I alight to go nyjc
so once there, I finally opened my mouth.... and heart
I asked him if he wanted to go to amkss, he said yes and when I told him that he took the wrong bus, he scratched his head and had a blur look on his face
LOL damn funny!
then I asked him if he knew how to get back
with his face still blur blur, he pointed to bus 22 behind the bus that we alighted
Omg, that's dumb lah... I mean... a 13 yr old boy doesn't know that to get back, you have to take buses from the opposite side?!
so I told him to take buses from the other side, preferably 133...
before he left, my last words were... "hmm... you're already late, good luck"
hahahaha

~~because of me~~, he had to do school service! hahaha
It's even funnier when you come to think of it that he actually could have walked to school and still be 10mins early!
oh man, I felt really sorry for that dude...
I kinda regretted not telling him when I saw him board the bus...
oh well...
I think that I've also helped in a way...
you see ah, when he reach amkss, the teachers will ask him why was he soooo late
when he tells them his amazing story, the teachers will prompt the school to make an announcement to warn all secondary 1 students not to just follow anybody wearing the amkss green uniform
and also inform them that there are graduated seniors still wearing the green outfit to JCs...

I went to the toilet in J8
then one guy came up beside me and used the urinal next to mine
he has this super huge belly and he looks like he's in his mid 30s...
then I could sense that he was looking at my ____!!!
got out of the toilet and he started talking to me!!!
my god...

he asked me if I was from RI
I told him no and asked him why the random question
he explained that he found me familiar blah blah...
then he asked if we can be friends
I gave him weird stares and asked what's the matter
then he said "eh, no lah. I'm a very sociable person and would like to make as many friends as possible"
then he asked me where I stay, what school and blah blah
and he asked for my number!
and... I gave it to him -.- don't ask me why, cause I don't know!

Dragon boat training on Wednesday was tough!
the J1s in my group did senior sets so it was tougher for my group...
oh man, we did crunches on the track and the timing was pretty fast
so fast that when I got home, I realised that I had abrasion on my back -.-
actually eh, good crunches should be done slowly~ squeezing your abs...
too fast and the momentum will help you to cheat and... you'll get abrasion haha

Luckily P.E on Thursday was slack...

I overslept on Friday
I woke up at 6.30 instead of 6.00
So I looked at my timetable and decided that I leave my house only at 8am
haha
because there's Chinese lesson from 8 to 9 and break from 9 to 9.30
hmm... I should do that on every Friday
After lessons, I went to the school gym for the first time.
pretty cool...
worked my chest, biceps and triceps...
then I went for a 4km run on the track
so weird lah... the whole track and field was empty except for an idiot running round and round

had a good time on Saturday
haiz... how nice if everyday is a Saturday...

training later at kallang from 1 to 4
I hate training in the afternoon!
no, not because of the hot sun... in fact, I would love the sun to be at its hottest later
instead, having training in the afternoon screws your day up
because you cant do shit hours before training...
its too early to go out...
then after training, it'll be dinner with your family and you can't go out as well

alright, time for something random...
I know of a method to get 6-packs :)
step 1: do whatever you can to get yourself a very bad cough
step 2: get yourself hours worth of hilarious video clips
step 3: watch the videos...
step 4: laugh and cough as hard as possible for the whole day!

We got into our classes today.
I'm in 0708
glad to see many amksians in the same class
there are like 7 or 8...
my class is pretty cool...
fun people:)

lessons today were pretty slack...
mainly because it was the first time we met our respective tutors
so we did introduction and stuff...
my class is lucky!
we got the friendliest Bio teacher from the Bio department
our econs tutor is a young lady, and you know.... young teachers are always better

Oh, I was complaining the whole morning about having 4 hours of H1 Chinese
but after the tutorial today, I want more!
haha, our teacher is quite nice...
no, she's not young
in fact, she's quite old... 55
the good news: the Chinese department decided that they will not give us much work during PAE
In another words, it'll be slack!

tomorrow is a super long day!
class ends at 5.30!

Btw, I've been looking through the calendar and I was delighted to see that 16 Feb is a friday!

hey everybody!
ponned Chinese lecture so I have the time to blog now:)

four days of college curriculum...
how different is it from secondary school?
It's 'adult-learning'
because, you can choose not to attend the lectures
and nobody will know, only you..... and god
but you'll be the only one who will suffer
okok, I'm contradicting myself by saying this after ponning my first chinese lecture
let me explain...
because it's the first lecture, I doubt it'll be important
because my chinese sucks to the extent that I'll still fail even if I attend the lecture
My chinese is hopeless lah...
it should be sufficient... as long as I know how to order food in chinese,
overall, JC life is not too bad
but it'll get much worse next week
mainly because, tutorials and lab work will take their place in our timetable
so... it'll be busier and lessons will end later :(

as for this week...
it's quite slack lah...
we have an average of 3 1hr lectures everyday
plus long breaks in between...
so I should say its quite shiok...
and during every breaks, it'll be food, food, food and more food
NYJC canteen food is 10 times better than AMKSS :)
I love the tuna and egg sandwich
so far, I've already eaten 4!
yummy~
but of course, when I eat more, I also spend more $$$

lectures are alright...
maths lecture was quite fast and apparently, my lecturer said that they have slowed the pace down tremendously for the first few months
as for now, I'll try to catch up...

the rest were so-so...
oh, biology!!!
wah, the lecturer is super strict!
she's a ________ lah!!!
I hope we won't see her much...

we had PE today!
It was many many times tougher than secondary school PE!!!
they're like preparing us for NS lah...
It was manageable for me though...
but what I hated was that we had to lie on the wet running track to do crunches etc
the back of our yellow shirts became red!
and there were many who didn't bring change so they had no choice but to buy NYJC pe shirt from the bookshop
hmm... I bet that bookshop auntie was in cahoots with the pe teachers!
and... I was one of the few smarter ones who brought extra underwear! haha

had my first dragonboat land training yesterday.
we did circuit training which consisted of pull up, push up, crunches, biceps curl etc
ended with sprints round the track
it's the kind of physical training that I've been yearning for :)
I'm lovin' it!
looking forward to training at kallang on Saturday

right now, my muscles are aching!
so paradise for me now is...
lie on the bed and just simply RELAX

NYJC Orientation

Busy with orientation for the past few days
I'm super tired
Had little sleep

first day was boring as hell
the games were damn cheesy

2nd day was at Sentosa
games were better
however, we had to walk from stations to stations under the hot sun which is extremely exhausting
rained heavily at about 5 and we had fashion parade and all

3rd day was a blast!
we played water games and had cheer competition between 4 factions
plus faction skits, prize presentation and disco night!
fun as hell:)

through out the 3 days, we learned 2 mass dances
the traditional and the uhhhh dance
pretty cool!!

and so the orientation ended and guess what we did today
Flag day!
~~they made use of us :(~~

after that, had lunch in town then pool at amk

gonna rest well tonight
dragon boat orientation at kallang tmr
awesome!

that is because i'm tired!

Last night of 2006 was goody:)

hmm... I have yet to receive a call from NYJC

Or is it because I wasn't even posted to NYJC?
I don't know, still waiting...

I must get into the dragonboat team!

4/1 Chalet

back from 4/1 chalet...
had a great time with my good friends of 4 years!
but of course, it would have been more fun if not for the rain :(

on the first night, went all the way to changi village from marina to join them in watching soccer
still didn't quite understand why they chose to go changi village when there's a nearer coffeeshop
after that, I also didn't understand why they chose to walk all the way back to the chalet at aloha loyang
Only duck and I cabbed back...
taxi uncle told us that it was 5.4 km
by the time the rest reached the chalet, I was already sleeping!

we went to rent bikes the next morning
paid only $15 for a whole day rental!
damn cheap!

had the worst BBQ in my life that evening...
firstly, the area of burning charcoal was too small to feed so many of us
secondly, the heat was too small!!
so the food took super long to cook and most of them were not properly cooked!
the pit was also overcrowded!
and everyone was cooking for themselves
I gave up after sometime and I knew that if I wanna survive the night, I've to go somewhere else to fill my stomach
Indeed, 12 of us cycled to a coffeeshop - in the rain
our bikes were decorated with plenty of light sticks
pretty cool...

It was the first time I went cycling in the rain at night...
It was fucking cold man!
regretted not bringing jacket...
got back and duck realised that he dropped his wallet along the way.
so several of us went back to search for his wallet...
halfway through and a sudden downpour forced us back to keep our phones
went back out and managed to find his wallet in the car park:)
lucky him...
all ended well... :)

hmm... I think I clocked the most number of hours of sleep
8 hours on both nights :)
no, I'm not a pig

went to town to collect my jeans that I sent for alteration from 2 places
why 2 places?
Because when I went to Levis @heeran, they said that they can only accept washed and clean jeans for alteration.
I had 2 pairs but only one was clean...
So I had to walk all the way to Levis @centrepoint, in the rain...
to alter the other pair.
wah lau, centrepoint didn't even ask shit about the jeans lah...
I should have just went straight to centrepoint

past 2 days were fantastic!
yesterday, I went to yishun and swam 20 laps!

I decided to swim instead of running because my knee was hurting.
maybe a sprain...
but swimming wasn't a good idea either.
the pain hit me once I got out of the pool.

went to Union Square at Amara hotel for Christmas dinner.
in case you're wondering, it's a bar that my parents frequent.
the food was goody and we had lots of drinks too
I'm a damn lousy drinker lah...
I only drank a bottle of Corona and took a few sips of this and that and I wasn't feeling too good already.
my parents and sister are damn good lah

my whole family are good drinkers except for me

Went to watch 'Night at the museum' at suntec with Krystle today
the show was not bad... but I don't recommend it?
because it's the kind of show that is interesting to watch but the story is crap.
It's quite funny though...
I actually went to get the tickets first before meeting her as I was afraid that there was no seats since it's a public holiday.
got there and every single time slots were still available... -.-
Man, I felt sooooo dumb.

Met her at city hall and she gave me a cake for my family
It was really nice of her
but I felt so embarrassed cause I didn't get anything for her family for x'mas

Firday
went to east coast park with krystle to roller blade
i cant blade for nuts man
she had to wait for me most of the time
it must have been pretty boring for her...
the weather was goody!
surprisingly, it didnt rain!
blading is supposed to be relaxing... not for me though...
got to practise more!
it was nice to spend the day with her
over the 4 years, she grew much prettier and TALLER (20 cm!!!)

bathed and took a bus down to town to meet up the rest of our primary school classmates for dinner at seoul garden
the rest? sounds alot huh?
actually there was only 7 of us!
me, nick, aiman, krystle, dina, jasmine and hoi ting
so it was a MINI gathering
nevertheless we had a great time talking and laughing
didnt eat much though...
i'm definitely looking forward to the next primary school gathering!
and jasmine must organise!

the visibility of the water in pulau hantu is terrible!
the vis yesterday was about 1.5 m and it was considered to be very good already!
today was bad as hell!
most of the times, I couldn't even see the person 40cm away from me!
the sea bed was also full of sharp rocks so we've to be very careful to avoid getting cut!
how bad was the water?
Ok, picture this...
make a cup of milo by using less water, let it stand for 15 mins until you get a suspension
there! can't see shit!
next, stir the cup so that you mess up the suspension, now you can't see anything!
that happens when our fins stir up the soft sand below

Damn tired now...
had to wake up at 5 am on last 2 days and coming into contact with sea water makes it worse
We couldn't take much photos yesterday because it rained but we compensated with lots of photos today!
I'll be busy compiling ~~all~~ the photos into a video

Standard Chartered Marathon 2006

Yes, the title says it all

My mum and I took the 10km race while my sister took the half marathon

my dad wasn't running so he offered to follow us and take care of our bag

so all of us woke up damn early and took a cab down

Alright, I was pretty satisfied with my run

I managed to hit my target to finish under an hour :)

My sister did good too, she took about 2hr 10min

the best of all, my mum!

all of us initially felt that she might have difficulty in even finishing the race

but she took only 90 minutes!

It's pretty good for someone who hasn't train and run for months prior to the race

Ultimately, it was a good day out as a family

It had been long since all of us went out together for breakfast

There you have it!

when I reached admiralty mrt station, it was raining heavily
my dad was buying some stuff so I met up with him to have a cup of coffee while we wait for my mum to fetch us with umbrellas
my mum passed us the umbrella and left urgently
I thought she had to rush home to take care of my 6 yr old cousin who is down with chicken pox
a short while later, my dad and I went home

got home and..... Surprise!
my mum was like: "Derek come here, I have something for you"
she points to a paper bag
it was a handphone paper bag!
It's a freaking N73!!!!!

I've been wanting to buy N73 myself but due to the budget explosion on the prom stuff, I thought that I should hold and maybe wait for the price to drop further

and now I have it!!!!

my mum actually bought the phone after passing us the umbrella
and when we were walking home, she was actually behind us!
I actually walked past the singtel shop and missed her!

Graduation night was great
Everybody looked amazing

but there's one thing for sure: some fun was gone because there were less people on the dance floor
Btw, the DJ was really lousy and his music choices for rnb/hiphop were terrible!
Whenever he was spinning techno, I took a seat
My mini ipod could have done a much better job than his huge case of albums!

The DJ stopped the party at about 12.30am
but the party is supposed to be till 1am!
the early end was probably due to the fact that he has no more music to play!

Finally, O'level is over!
Finally, my blog is updated!

I'm having lots of fun but i'm not relaxed!
damn busy shopping for prom and i have scuba lessons on monday to wednesday night!
I spent two loooong days shopping for my prom stuff!
the distance i walked could be equivalent to 10km!
yes, i burned enough calories so don't have to do additional workouts :)

I managed to buy all my stuff except for my shoes
exceeded my bugget!!!
so I've to get a cheap pair of shoes from... Bata?

down with a little sore throat and stuffy nose
pretty worried that i can't do the scuba confined pool session later in the evening and go to the party at MOS
I've taken every medicine that i could find that can help!

12 October 2006 was definitely one of the best days in my life
no words can describe it...
no lah, actually it's just that my vocab isn't good enough

anyway, the farewell assembly was short and sweet...
I hope i did good for the speech
i'm really thankful that i was given the chance to speak
most importantly, it was a chance for me to tell mr ling how i felt

the best part of the assembly was when we walked through the teachers
shaked hands and hugged the teachers
at that time, tears was already welling up in my eyes
but when i exited the hall, i saw my friends and tears started to flow
yes, i think i was the first guy in my class to cry...
how i wished for the time to stop...

haiz... i regretted not bringing my digi cam!

Scuba Diving

Didnt go to sch today...
joined my family to Bright Hill temple to pray for my late grandpa
it's the 100th day so... my mum thought it'll be good if i can join them
anyway, decided to join them since school is so meaningless and boring

I don't think it's stage fright that is bothering me...
Instead i think it's the fear of mispronouncing words and stumbling

I am very unhappy with how our school treat the sec 4 students!!!
as we all know, sec1 to sec3 are having exams now
we also know that they are dismissed earlier
yes, they are dismissed earlier but does that give the fucking lazy, fat and useless security guards the reason to lock the back gates earlier?

come on, have they forgotten that we sec4s are still in school?
we are hungry and home sick and locking the gate even before we are dismissed is totally ridiculous!!!

Ah, everyone knows about the food poisoning case in AMKSS
went back to school on Thursday, didnt feel too well...
but since i had only a day MC (stupid doctor!)
I dragged myself to school
i was late for school because i spent like 20 mins on the toilet bowl in the morning!
Aiyah, Fuck the whole food poisoning saga lah!
I just cant wait to recover fully
still have diarrhoea... haiz...

my class recieved our prelims result slips back today.
when mrs veda told us that the result will come in A4 size paper, I thought it was going to be some kind of a certificate
hell i was wrong
it was just a pathetic piece of white paper
so, it's official that i have obtained a L1R5 of 15
i'm satisfied with my results
it's not very good but it's not too bad either
hope i can make it to science stream in NYJC for the first 3 months =)
Gregory was very disappointed with his results, mainly because he failed his English
But man! this bright boy did superb in his other subjects
it's a pity
Tommy and I accompanied him to look for Mrs Anand to see if she could help him.
we couldn't find her so Greg left a letter in her locker
I really hope that Mrs Anand would be able to help Greg out
we'll keep our fingers crossed

Anyway, had dinner at Jack's place to celebrate my mummy's birthday!
we had a wonderful time talking and laughing!!!

Got back several prelims results...
Generally, i should say i'm quite satisfied...

Besides the little thrill of knowing our results, this week have been soooo boring
Its exciting to know your results and the excitement can only last for like a minute?
and the rest of the time are spent going through the papers
Its so damn boring lah...
yeah, its important to know your mistakes but its still super boring!

during these boring periods
you have to self-entertain to stay alive!

Oh btw, I'm surrounded by 3 geniuses in class
Melvrick Goh, Phoebe Goh and Goh Mao Kun!
Coincidentally, 3 of them are GOHs!
they're are always getting crazily high results lah!

While waiting to go to the chem lab for our practical exam in the AVA room
Tommy and I had a crapping session...

We were predicting that potassium manganese would be used for titration because if that is the case, no indicators would be required.
Since indicators aren't cheap, we were certain that our stingy school would save on the indicators
And... We were right!

We were also complaining that the specimen used in our brio practical exam were damn cheapskate
rice, peanuts and kidney beans were used...
these can be bought in bulks and they wouldn't cost more than $10
Furthermore, there'll definitely be leftovers which can be used for sec 3 practical lessons

We also predicted that electrical circuits would not be used for our physics practical exams
because the school have to replace all the fused bulbs and some of the batteries
We were sure that they would not spend the extra moolahs too...
And.... We were right again

Oh btw, Nick told me that the school gonna change the uniforms next year
they gonna change it to tucked-out kind of uniforms
think its gonna be damn damn ugly lah!!!!

i wonder who was the decision maker
shouldn't they conduct a referendum or something?
I'm against it!!!!
